"Clowning should be a compulsory weekly activity for everyone. Afterwards I'd never felt so light." - Jake,

UPCOMING
WORKSHOPS

Craft of clown
16th and 17th November
The storytelling hut, emerson college, forest row

A 2 Day Workshop exploring the world of clown through the realms of play, connection and curiosity.

"In short, don't dullshit your life. You must be a completely reckless and headless doofus, and at the same time you must go through every millimeter of what you are doing."

Slava Pulonin, Russian Clown and Philosopher

Fool Heart workshops hold the textured tapestry of this ancient and contemporary art-form of clown at its centre. Upon this is a strong belief that everyone holds their own intricate and astounding foolish clown within them just waiting to be given space.
Afa's offering as a facilitator is a space to play and guidance to find the flow of our curiousity. To learn how we can share and express the intricate-ugly-beautiful-sensitive, and how we can craft the ridiculous aspects of life into our very own gift of an offering to eachother. Over the years Afa has collected and developed practices which weave together the technical aspects of clown with an acute sense of it's connecting and transformational capacity.
Whether you consider yourself an artist, maker, performer or none of the above, clown and fool can shake your creativity from its branches and give you permission to indulge in every juicy jaw dropping dripping bite.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Afa is a clown, film maker, musician and artist who is actively engaged and curious about how creative practices hold the power to liberate and transform.

Afa grew up in an eccentric family of theatre makers and artisans and has followed this craft all her life. Speaking the lanaguage of theatre from a young age.
She graduated from Goldsmiths University with a degree in Theatre and Performance and discovered Clown through the facilitation of visionary clown teacher Zuma Puma. Afa trained and apprenticed with Zuma over a 5 year period and wrote her thesis ‘Clown as Alchemist’ on her learnings from Zuma and research into the philosophical and historical contexts of clowning.
Afa has since trained with a number of clowning teachers including Lucy Hopkins and Julia Masli and volunteers with The Flying Seagulls Project who are crisis clowns working as humanitarian clowns with children.
Afa continues training rigorously with teachers that inspire her, ever-evolving her practice with new concepts and questions.
Recently Afa completed a full-time year in training as a Level 5 Transpersonal Arts Therapist in group-work which supports her in holding a safe and informed space for emotional well-being.

Afa is currently developing and touring a one woman clown show ‘Dada Yaga’ which explores folklore and the surreal encounter of ritual and clown.

TESTIMONIALS

"The Craft of Clown was everything I had wished for and more.

Afa skillfully led our group with humour, wisdom and clarity without squishing the abundant energy to play which was quickly accessed due to the safe space she crafted for us. Afa facilitates in a very freeing way, she is incredibly gifted in reading and adapting to the needs of her group while keeping on the course objectives. Afa's not frightened to embrace the flow and gave us space to deeply connect with our vulnerable moments.
Afa is brilliantly herself and embodies clown in a way you want - need to know more!
I will forever hold my day with Afa and the group in my treasure chest of workshop dreams."

"Like forgetting and remembering what it means to be a human-being and alive to life. Like visiting another planet, where the language is play, and everything is upside-down and inside-out and possible. You will land home feeling all dreamy and floaty."
Sophia, Community Facilitator
